Bio
Sitting under the stairwell at the family business in Bainbridge, Georgia and drawing from the Sears-Roebuck catalog is one of Janice's earliest childhood memories. After finishing a degree in fine art at Wesleyan College, she became a wife and mother. For several years until a second child was born she worked in ingineering firms in Commerce, Ga, Atlanta, Ga, and Albany, Ga as a draftsperson. She recalls that she was one of the first female drafters in the State of Georgia. This type of work greatly enhanced her drawign and illustration skill.
During child-rearing years Janice made commissioned drawings and volunteered to conduct art classes at the elementary school level. When her youngest child reached 12, Janice returned to school taking classes in education. She taught school at Radium Springs Elementary School for 14 years.
After retiring from her teaching career in 2003, Rentz began working full time as an artist. Her studio, Jefferson Street Gallery, is located in historic downtown Albany, Georgia. Having made art in a primarly realistic manner for many years, Janice is enjoying the freedom of expression found in more abstract compositions. Because of her faith, God through Christ has a significant influence on her work.
